Download Nomination Form now. Award for Excellence in Nursing Research 2012 The promotion of nursing research is a critical component of CASN’s mission. The recognition of individual accomplishments in the research arena is an important means by which CASN can acknowledge contributions to the growth of nursing as a scientific discipline. The award for Excellence in Nursing Research is presented annually at the Fall CASN Council meeting.EligibilityAny faculty member of a CASN member school may be nominated. Criteria The recipient of the CASN Award of Excellence in Nursing Research will demonstrate the following characteristics: - Sustained research activity in a substantive area of relevance to nursing practice, education, and research or policy development.
- Ability to succeed in obtaining intramural and extramural funding for research activities.
- Active engagement in dissemination of research through presentation, publication and other means.
- Commitment to mentorship of students and colleagues engaged in the research process.
- Leadership in strengthening the profile of nursing research within academic, service and/or non-profit sector organizations.
- Obtained or received funding in the last ten years must be identified.
Submission/Nomination Documentation Individuals must be nominated in writing by three faculty members of a CASN member school. A completed nomination form, with letters of support from each nominator, and a 250 word description of the accomplishments of the nominee, including evidence of research excellence such as funding obtained, publications and presentations, and application of research findings in nursing practice, education, administration or policy development, and a copy of a curriculum vitae should be included. The letters of support should specifically reference the nominee’s achievements and activities related to the award criteria. Examples of leadership in research, interdisciplinarity and mentorship may also be included. The letters of support should be addressed to the Chair of the Nominations and Awards Committee of CASN, and identify the individual by name, title and school/faculty. In addition to the 250 word description, supporting documentation such as audio-visual materials, website addresses, manuals, and commendations from the candidate’s institution or a partner organization could be included.
