Mandate To assist CASN members in ensuring that all baccalaureate graduates of Canadian schools of nursing are prepared to meet the expected Canadian standards for community health nursing practice. Terms of Reference To review the standards for community health nursing practice in the context of undergraduate nursing education programs.
To develop a survey, under the guidance of the CASN Standing Committee on Databases, on current community health nursing content in nursing education programs that reflects the standards for community health nursing practice.
To develop guidelines to assist baccalaureate nursing programs in meeting recognized standards for community health nursing practice. (SD-1.1, 1.3)
To represent CASN’s position on public health nursing education in national discussions related to public and community health. (SD-1.1, 1.3)
To develop CASN’s national position on public health. (SD-1.1, 1.3)
To support CASN members develop pandemic planning for their educational institutions.
To advocate for funding for public health.
To report to the Board of Directors annually.
There shall be regular communications between the Chair of this Sub-Committee and the Chair of the Standing Committee on Education through the CASN National Office staff.
To provide a report to the Board of Directors and Council.
Term of Office and Membership The Term of office will be at the discretion of the CASN Executive Committee. Voting members of the Sub-Committee are:

CASN members with expertise in community health nursing representing the Atlantic, Western, Ontario, and Quebec regions (8 in total)
A representative in community health nursing named by ANDSOOHA
A representative in public health nursing named by PHN Leaders Council of BC
A representative in public health nursing named from CPHA
A representative in community/public health nursing named by CHNAC
A member of the CASN Board of Directors will be appointed to serve as a communication linkage between the Sub-Committee and the Board of Directors
A representative from the Public Health Agency of Canada (non-voting)
Meetings The Sub-Committee will normally meet by teleconference, a minimum of twice per year and at other times, at the call of the Chair, to fulfill its mandate. Support for meetings and the work will be provided by an assigned National Office staff member.
